A massive sex scandal has rocked Equatorial Guinea after hundreds of objectionable videos of a high-ranking government official went viral on social media platforms, showing him engaging in sexual acts, seemingly consensual, with the wives of more than 20 ministers, and even the President’s sister and his cousin.
According to reports, over 400 videos of Ebang Engonga, the Director of National Financial Investigation Agency in Equatorial Guinea, have surfaced on social media sites. In the videos, all of which have reportedly been shot inside Engonga’s office in the Ministry of Finance, the official is seen engaging in sexual activities with dozens of different women, including the police chief’s wife, the spouses of more than 20 ministers, and even his own sister-in-law.
The shocking sex scandal has rocked the Central African nation to its core, with Vice President Teodoro Nguema Obiang Mangue on Monday declaring that all officials found engaging in sexual acts in Ministry offices, will be suspended with immediate effect. Taking to social media, Obiang said the acts itself were a direct violation of the code of conduct for government officials as well as public morality.
Notably, last week, Obiang had issued orders to the country’s telecommunications ministry, regulator, and network service providers to help limit the reach of these lewd videos on various social media websites within 24 hours. The order called upon these entities “to curb the distribution of pornographic videos that are flooding social networks in Equatorial Guinea”.
“As the government, we cannot continue to see families destroyed,” he had said.
However, Obiang’s diktat proved largely ineffective as Engonga’s videos have been widely circulated and shared on social media platforms across the world.
As per local media reports, the videos were first circulated on WhatsApp groups, and later shared on other popular platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, X, etc, where they quickly went viral.
Who is Ebang Engonga?
Ebang Engonga is the son of Baltasar Engonga Edjo, President of the Central African Economic and Monetary Community Community. Ebang works in Equatorial Guinea’s Ministry of Finance where he serves as the Director of the country’s National Financial Investigation Agency– a federal body which investigates financial crimes, akin to India’s Enforcement Directorate.
Popularly called ‘Bello’, owing to his good looks, Ebang Engonga is a married father, and also related to the country’s long-serving president.
The sex tapes were leaked on social networks at a time when Ebang had been remanded in custody at Malabo’s infamous Black Beach prison in a case of embezzlement of public funds, according to state television station TVGE.
